Thought it would be a good topic of conversation!

For me, venues have certain moods given the architecture and history! Also, I'm sure many of you will know this, some venues don't suit certain types of music! But for me, what is special is when you see a band at a certain venue and both elements provide an incredible atmosphere, they work off each other in a sense. I have seen JBT at many venues now, and by far the best is the Palais theatre (from memory, 04, 05, 07?). The venue hold's a reasonable capacity, yet no matter how far you are from the band you feel like you are right up there on the stage. The atmosphere is intimate and the acoustics are stunning. You get a strong synthesis of music and venue that are very much compatible, especially given that JBT is story telling as much as it is music. To contrast the Palais Theatre with Festival Hall, I saw JBT the first night at the Palais and the next at Festival Hall. I got the complete opposite feeling at Festival Hall though it was basically the same show. I felt there was no intimate connection between crowd and band, nor was there a positive atmosphere in which the band and the venue synthesized.

Now I know this topic is heavily subjective, but I would love to hear what others think about what they have experienced at JBT gig's and how the venues have changed the atmosphere! No matter where you are in the world and even if you have not experienced JBT in Melbourne. Even if, perhaps, you have only experienced JBT at one venue; did it work, did it not, why so or not etc And perhaps, where would you like to see JBT perform in your local area, and why.

I reckon JBT should perform at either the Forum or The Palace (formerly know as the Metro) next melb tour, change it up as its been either Palais Theatre or Festival Hall since 04 (atleast in terms of Tours, I regard Fed Square as an event etc)

Union Chapel in London was pretty intense, seeing as it is, literally, a chapel. I was front row though so my experience could have been very different to those at the back, but the atmosphere just seemed to be so... open. To the music, to the crowd - everything was part of one big whole, it was like there was no divide between audience and band.

Hmmm good topic .....
Festival Hall - not my favourite. Didn't like the sound there.
Corner Hotel - Nice and small. Acoustics not great but you can feel the energy (similar to the Palace and HiFi Bar as well)
Forum - Good but again not great acoustics
Best Indoor Venue has to be the Palais. Not as intimate but great sound
Best Outdoor Venue for me and JBT has to be the Myer Music Bowl and then Fed Square

Cheers,
Art

Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. The sound, the history, the atmosphere.....by far the best for a JBT show. The Roxy Theater in Atlanta was really good too back on 2007.

From memory I have only seen JBT at 2 Sydney venues...The Enmore & The Hordern (not counting the Sydney iTunes store - I have also seen them at the beautiful Anita's Theatre in Thirroul aswell as many festivals). For me these two venues have contrasting vibes...I am not a huge fan of the Hordern, lately when JBT has played their I doesnt seem to have the intimacy and connection you get with a theatre show. It is more of a party vibe and brings out a lot of "ring ins". Although I must one of my fav vibing JBT shows was at the Hordern when he had the place jumping and ho-dowing to Ocean and percussion jam to Somethings Gotta Give.

My fav venue to see JBT is the Enmore Theatre, my preference is to sit in the middle of the lounge (upstairs) so you have a great view of the entire trio...and although you are not as close (however i tend to get really good seats like Row A to D) you still feel like he is playing especially for you. The Enmore Theatre is a beautiful old theatre in Newtown, it has such a great vibe and the sound is really really good. The shows at this venue tend to be alot more quiet and the crowd is normally extremely polite and these shows normally involve a great deal of JB's story telling. Have a look at this pic, it is a similar place where I tend to sit:: http://www.google.co...:0&tx=114&ty=69
(How cool its a pic from Public Enemy)

As far as where I would want to see the Trio play as there really isn't many viable venues for them in Sydney besides these 2 or god forbid the Entertainment Centre my pick hands down is the Enmore Theatre, it is prob my fav venue in Sydney.

As for a wishlist/unlikely to happen I would love for JBT to play the Famous Spiegeltent at the Sydney Festival...this is my fav venue ever it is a beautiful 90 year old tent with Mirrors and seats about 150 people, I have sat front row many times and it feels like the band is playing for you alone and literially you can touch them it is that close.
