Share a night of tales and songs with one of Australia’s most iconic singer songwriters

John Butler returns to his roots to perform a series of solo concerts throughout the country in March and April. Aptly titled “Tin Shed Tales”, the tour takes in capital cities and a host of regional areas; these shows will be a rare opportunity to hear the music of this iconic artist in a raw and intimate setting.

John will be bringing his Tin Shed along for the ride, decked out with a collection of personal art pieces, old skool skateboards and vintage guitars, these items are laid out in his shed at home where he draws inspiration for his art and songwriting.

The Tin Shed Tales tour will feature special guests Felicity Groom and Mama Kin, who will open and participate in the shows (see list of shows below).

In December last year John decided to put on a surprise concert for his fans in Perth. The unplugged acoustic show was announced a day before the performance and with only 300 seats available it sold out in under seven minutes. He shared many anecdotes with the audience and performed songs from his vast catalogue spanning across all five albums.
Thus the “Tin Shed Tales” concept came to life.

Check out ‘Revolution’ taken from the “Tin Shed Tales” special Christmas performance at the Subiaco Arts Centre - WA

Regarding the forthcoming tour John Butler said today,

"I'm really excited about this tour. There is something special about stripping all the bells and whistles off and really feeling the power of less is more."

John will unveil some brand new songs alongside tracks from his extensive catalogue on the “Tin Shed Tales” tour. Don’t miss the opportunity to catch the most intimate performance this versatile artist has ever undertaken. It will be a unique experience for any music lover.

Tickets go on sale Monday February 6th

* Along with their Bluesfest performance, the John Butler Trio will be performing a couple of key shows within John’s solo tour for their fans in Darwin and Cairns – these dates are included below as noted.

Why no QLD Love John? You are going to Kuranda only? I am originally from the atherton tablelands but living in Bris, it hurts...

Please please please come to south east QLD, don't care if it's not Bris, I'll drive, but Kuranda is a bit too far!

BTW, the One Small Step EP is my absolute favourite, to see something like this live would be truly fulfilling.

This show would be such a treat to see....A Sth East QLD show is needed indeed! I would travel to Tamworth but on a week night it makes it a pretty difficult for me, there are lots of great venues you could slide into!...The beautiful Old Museum building perhaps :)

I'll jump in too to express my dismay at no South East Queensland dates... Maybe it wouldn't work logistically, as the man's up at Cairns on 7th April, then down to Byron Bay the following day,and then further south to Tamworth for the 11th, but surely we SEQ folk are worth a quick visit? I imagine that all of the shed equipment wouldn't be flown around the country (who could trust any airline with such sentimentally important possessions), and thus driven instead, but surely a stop in SEQ could be squeezed on the journey south. Perhaps this could be in Toowoomba, where the trio played a show in September 2010, which is close enough to Brisbane and the other big cities around for sufficient people to attend, but still rural enough to really embrace the Tin Shed Tales intention of the tour?
I do hope that something in SEQ can be added, otherwise I'm sure there will be a number of disappointed fans such as myself.

Whether or not a gig in South East Queensland does happen, I wholeheartedly agree with Blade1394 comment on a DVD possibly being produced of the tour. I think that is a great idea, and it would be a great way to preserve the experience for John's fans worldwide.

Hey Vazz... what show will you seek tickets for?

Our preference is Sun 22 April - Meeniyan Hall, Meeniyan VIC Thats a bit of a drive from Melbourne and perhaps overnight stay, but it looks like a more apt venue.

I really hope that this turns into a world tour like the solo tour of 2009! Seeing John sso close up and intimate at Union Chapel in London was one other the best gig eexperiences ever!

I really didn't want to head into the city. Down South would have been good, but for us it's a drive to Ballarat.
Good tickets though 3rd row, nearish centre. Ha... cheaper too.

And seems I'm not alone... from offyaFacebook pages.

Iznaya Kennedy
Might have to come back to Meeniyan for a show after the other gigs, to rectify the pre-sale date selling of most tickets and the great numbers of people who missed out, for being honest enough to wait for the sale day!

Bronwen Hilton
Majority of the public didn't even get a chance to get tickets to the Meeniyan show. Apparently they were "sold out" before they even when on sale today. Talk about dodgy.

Krista Pulham
Yup totally shattered!! Apparently tickets went out to shops in fishy, meeniyan and foster....but when I asked for tickets they didn't receive any...would of loved to go, please do another show jb! :)

Emily Findlay
I got my tix after 9am this morning. I can't wait to see you at the best venue in Victoria!

Helen Pulham
Where and how did you get tickets to the show in meeniyan??

Yeah, good question... How, because I'd sent email requesting reservation in the early hours of date of sale, and on the phone constantly dialling [call > engaged > redial > call ....] till the damn thing ran out of battery... a good 45minutes. While doing so I resent email [the venue web page advised sale by email or phone only] and just as I gave up calling a return email arrived to advise "

Unfortunaltely the show sold out before we processed your request for tickets and therefore there are no tickets availble for you.

Honestly, is spell check that hard to do.... anyway, the sale debarkle there cost town two people spending money there and no intention to head that way again.

It's a small local theatre that isn't used to hosting acts like John Butler which sell out in minutes. They were overwhelmed and the show sold out faster than they could handle requests.

oh heavens I have had over 1000 emails telephone calls, people queued in lines at our four outlets!
am still taking calls and people still emailing

Give them a break.

The venue has a cap of 260, it sold out as soon as they opened. Why would they take phone reservations from out-of-towners over selling directly to the locals who were lined up before the box office opened?

It's not the venue for people in VIC to travel too because they don't want to go into the city for the HIFI Bar show.

No need to be condescending Tom....I can understand Misha's preference to see one of these "intimate gigs" in a small town hall in the country, rather than in a pub in the city. Atleast you have choices Misha....I wish the country folk of South Australia could get some JB love....

ps - Tom, is there a cap on the number of people for the Governor Hindmarsh show?

It's not condescending to state the fact that a 260 capacity venue isn't going to cater for everyone who wants to be there after someone posts a complaint critiquing the venue because they missed out as it sold out too fast.

I like to think Misha wouldn't have posted his complaint the way he did if he had all the facts in the first place thou so there's no harm done.

ps - Tom, is there a cap on the number of people for the Governor Hindmarsh show?

No, it will hold everyone in South Australia  - every venue has a cap.....

Ok guys, let's just take a deep breath.

Misha was disappointed and that's understandable. Everyone wants to go, but there's only so many tickets and some will unfortunately miss out. Hopefully it can be better managed next time - consider it a learning experience.

Chris, I think Tom was frustrated and over reacted. Let's cut him some slack, the question the way it was worded was a little silly. The answer to your question regarding capacity for the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel is 700 according to this site: http://www.liveguide...Hindmarsh_Hotel

All is good guys!

Never mind, learning experience is that it's a rat race to get tickets sometimes.

Yes, the intent was a small venue and MOST CERTAINLY not a pub..... I've just escaped living and working in such a toxic environment and it will be a long time before I'm willing to walk into such a place ever again, especially when it's such a gig. Plonkers in a pub would have no care for anyone but themselves [I even doubt the self respect sometimes] and an absolute contradiction, the way I see it.
Sure, it may suit some people... some may not consider it a compromise, but that isn't me nor my partner.

Like I said, and others too, it was disappointing to find what happened there. I had telephoned on the day of show announcement to find best way to purchase tickets there. The web site indicated a cap of 300. The venue sells by other means and seems to have a decent profile. [no answer during typical business hours, no call back either]. it all seemed pretty sketchy the way that show was sold.... not like other upcoming events.

The situation was very different at Ballarat venue. After moving beyond disillusion, a half hour later, I logged onto their web site and secured two good tickets.... but had a CCard problem so telephoned the venue. Problem with Bank, however the woman at Box Office actually reserved those tickets for me by not closing computer screen till I could recall with another CCard details.... another half hour later!

So, my experience with Ballarat has been far better, not limited to this.
The other ways... I'd purchased a furniture piece three months ago and had organised to pick-up as I passed through on my way from WA. That ended up being four months due to hold ups back in WA. A-OK, but five minutes prior to Ballarat the car alternator dies.... no charging. A supplier in Ballarat had an original component at city price that I installed myself. There was a nice park with big shady trees where I did so on a hot day, and a place there to wash the filthy grease from my hands... helpful people all the way!

Wow, very sensitive.

Let's all relax and just focus. These things that aren't worth getting upset about.
You miss out on tickets, don't whinge, try another venue or be better prepared next time.
C'est la vie, whatever shall be, shall be.

You ask a question that doesn't contain any reference to what you want to know and get upset over the humour in the answer, don't whinge, ask a better question or just spend those minutes in reply trying google instead.

Seriously guys, i don't take any of this seriously because this is such a minuscule set of issues in a world gone mad that you can't get upset or angry over pleasures like concerts.
You'll know when i'm serious but most likely i'm very relaxed and joking with you.

"There's no where you can be that isn't where your meant to be, it's easy"
Enjoy yourselves.

Second show added for Adelaide:

Mon 30 April - Gov Hindmarsh SA supported by Felicity Groom
Second & Final Show: Tickets from: venue www.thegov.com.au Tel: 08) 8340 0744, Moshtix - www.moshtix.com.au
1300 GET TIX (1300 438 849), Venue*Tix - www.venuetix.com.au, Tel: 08) 8225 8888

Everyone should be aware that this tour is deliberately being played in smaller theatre type venues to cater for the "solo & intimate" setting, so tickets will sell quicker than normal for all shows.

Cheers P-man, I've been going to see bands at the Gov for 25 years and well know the capacity and clientele. The later being something you can't google!

Yes every venue has a capacity, that wasn't the question. Is there a cap on the number of people for the Governor Hindmarsh show.....ie limiting the number of people to 450-500 and providing the intimate setting as advertised. As opposed to selling to 700 capacity and losing that intimacy. Small venue does not equal intimate gig, especially if that venue is a pub. But that was never going to happen and your right, it was a stupid question. I was just hoping to go on a nostalgia trip back to the first time I saw JB at the Gov 12 years ago, when only 100 people turned up and it truelly was an intimate evening and one of the most memorable gigs of my life.

I'm not upset, not fussed about it at all....

This is actually a great question and like you said there was never going to be the chance of it happen but I feel exactly the same way about the Sydney Show that I am going to. It is at the Metro which I hate as a venue, it is okay when the place is half or 2/3rds full but when it is jam packed like it will be for this show it sucks as it gets so cramped and if you are not their really early you tend to get a ordinary spot.

I was hoping JB picked a better venue for the Sydney show, although the Metro is smaller then the Enmore I feel that the Enmore has a more intimate feel to it and there is not really a bad spot in the house. What about a 2nd show at the Basement JB you know you want to, Prince has even played there!

You want intimate you should all come to the Newcastle Civic gig... seen JBT there twice back in 2004, one of the greatest venues around.

Will be awesome going back there again for JB after 7 years! Got 4th row tickets too! Brilliant! Very excited!

I was thinking about driving up for that show or the Canberra one, but the fact it is a weeknight turned me off and I would most likely have to go by myself. Whereas Sydney show I have bought tickets for 9 friends.

I can no longer go to the Sydney Metro 27/04/12 show as I will be at Byron :)

I therefore may have a couple of tickets to sell at cost price, can email the tickets as they are pdf files. This show has now sold out. Enquire within or pm.

only have one thing to say

if you can do anything to get tix, then do it, the show was absolutly fantastic, the music was great as always by JB and i cant wait for his new song to be released so i can get it. small and intimate is the best way to see john butler. I will have top put last nights concert up in my own top 3 i have ever been to.

in conclusion, beg, borrow, do what you have to to get some tickets it was well worth it

Thanks John Butler you made my night

Thanks in advance ! x

Been awfully quiet 'round here, yet what I hear coming from above ^up there^ rings clear and true, all the way 'cross the ocean that divides us.
