For those who missed the JBT live stream and chat, I asked a question but unforunantly only half the question got through and confusion was had by all! Thus, I thought maybe I should start a topic on it!

About a year ago I saw Josh Pyke do a concert, it was after the release of his new album (at the time) and he had toured with it, so before he went off to write more music he did a gig in which he reworked fans picked songs into new ways of playing them.. He played Memories and Dust on Mandolin etc And I thought what a great idea!

Thus I asked John whether there was any chance at this type of tour, in my words, "Celebrating his whole discography" with the new members of the band! The Waifs also did this kind of thing, and I reckon it would be a great thing for JBT to do before they settle down and start writing and recording the new album!

Whats People's thought? Idea's? Yay Nay? etc etc

Personally, I reckon it would be great for fans to pick songs and it would be a top way for fans to feel involved in the gig process!

For example, I would love to hear Seeing Angel's but he play's the banjo part!

Also, when I saw Katie Noonan and the Captains she ran a competition where people could submit dances or artwork to some of her songs, and she picked two people from melbourne who designed dances inspired by her music to perform it live with her! I reckon it would be amazing if JB had some fans perhaps jamming, or dancing, or whatever! Maybe this could cooincide with a design the poster competition idea that seems to have taken off *shifty eyes*

keen to see peoples thoughts!

Well he did say that he would like to do a series of concerts over a few days in which he plays each album from start to finsih, one album a night. I think that either would be a great idea, and by him saying that he would do the albums thing means that it is absoloutly not out of the question for him to do a back to roots tour, especially seeing how much the songs have changed and evolved as he has as a person and a musician.
I vote Yay!

I had a quick look at the webstream and this was one of the most promising things I heard from it!!

I know many bands have done this sort of tour as Valley is talking about were the fans choose the majority of the setlist, Augie March did a similar thing and it was amazing...they did it much like Valley described, fans choose the majority of the songs and the band either played them straight up or reworded them. It would be great for JBT to do this, already songs like Betterman etc have taken on a different feel with the new band it would be great to see them play even more old stuff..

I was thinking the other day they should rip out Money & Take with Byron on the didgeridoo.

I think it would be cool, but to be honest im keen to just leave them to their devices and see what happens. Theres huge potential for more amazing music to be created and I dont doubt that it will be, but I wouldnt want to stifle that by asking them to do something, yes the music is amazing and yes it would be awesome to see it played again live, but maybe wait to see what comes out over the next few years first while this is still a new configuration?

 I think it would be a good thing to do and would be amazing if it happens but quite unlikely that it will come of anything. All artists say they would 'love to do this or that' or 'wouldn't it be great if' etc.
They have had plenty of opportunity in the past five/six years to bring some of the older stuff into the setlist but they haven't. A recent and ongoing example is John actively fighting 'the man' at Kimberley. Would be a perfect opportunity to bring back Earthbound Child, Don't Understand or Money back to the set but John has used the opportunity to play his most recent single, Revolution, at the rally's or just use it as an intro to Ocean. :(
I would also be annoyed that if he did the 4 nights/4 albums thing it would almost certainly be in Australia and I would miss out - being from UK! :P

This would be a great idea! I'd probably try to see the John Butler album night as he rarely plays the songs off that album and they are some of my favorite.

so, he does a 4 night swing in Perth.....mainly because that is his homebase. THEN, he does a 4 night swing in Nashville, TN at the Ryman Auditorium mainly because of the pure history and great fan base in the surrounding areas. Then he does a 4 night swing in Europe....maybe France.

Everyone will have to have a chance to see it in their home country or continent in my opinion.

Self-titled and Three can be done in the same night. Sunrise and bonus tracks from that time in the second night. Grand National and bonus(aint that just the way, recognise me, etc.) in the third night. April Uprising and bonus(satisfy, im ready, only you, etc.) in the 4th night.

OCEAN every night though for those who will not be able to make all 4 shows!

KESTER.......lets make this happen!!!! ;) :D

re-read your post *shifty eyes*

but on a more serious note, I dont know whether its appropriate or whether there would be any chance of it happening, but imagine if he got the original muso's to band up for the old stuff! that would be a sight, though I doubt one that I would ever witness!
