Is anybody familiar with Richard Wilson (from Brisbane)'s guitars? I'm thinking of buying one of his lapsteels and am keen to hear if anyone has any feedback on them? thanks!

i beleive it was Aiden who got a RW lap steel a while back so he's the one to talk to. going by what the old forum said on the subject he would be value for money (especially now he only does weissenborns) but perhaps not as respected in the field as Tim Kill. Hes pretty famous for them too
I have to say, I've been thinking of getting one of these for a while. my cole clark is good but not really right for my style of playing

heya guys,

i got a custom designed one of him... larger neck and body (dreadnought 12string size) and its big. and has balls... the finish is a little slack and rough around the edges. but i only payed $2500 for it and its a beast. check out my myspace im pretty sure theres a pic of it on there. Its ala jeff lang styled guitar.

i cant comment on his standard models but i rekon they would be good value for money. and he would of got beta...

one thing i didnt like was that he didnt measure the spacing between strings at the nut. he just divided it by 6. which made all the fat strings closer than the thin ones... not very good, so had to change that.

but he was easy to work with yeah some ofhis new models and wood look decent, but havent played one

Hey Ryan

I bought a weissenborn off Richard. Had it custom made. I think it was a model 2 at the time when i ordered, but now looking at his new website it wuld sit between a 2 and 3. It is an awesome guitar. It has great sound and tone. I got him to put in a pick up as well, cause the price he was asking for a rare earth pick up was much less than anywhere i could source one from.

He is very easy to work with as nothing was a problem if i wanted to change certain aspects.

Before i finally bought this weissenborn, i had played as many as i could find. I had played some that were almost double the price and were half as good. I wouldn't look back

Cheers

Ryan there is a guy who lives just north of Coffs Harbour and just south of Grafton who makes amazing accustic guitars and weissenborns; his name is Tim O'Dea and his phone number is 66492548. You should check him out, he doesnt have a website but i can post you a few photo's of my guitar and a weissenborn he made.

I just purchased and received a Weissenborn style guitar made by Richard Wilson made of Hawaiian koa. The wood is beautiful, the construction, joinery etc. is very well done, finish is flawless, the sound is great.

Richard was very easy to deal with and I would not hesitate to buy a guitar from him again.
